ACP Ashok Kamte

ashok-kamte

My Tribute to ACP Ashok Kamte who lost his life in Mumbai fight against terrorist on Wednesday. The tall Ashok Kamte was a bundle of opposites His fit, muscular build and trademark beret — rather than a senior police officer’s khaki cap — gave him the look of an army commando. And sure enough, he too had taken part in many encounters, earning a reputation for daring.

I had the opportunity to meet Sir Kamte while we were on on a United Nations training in Vicenza, Italy earlier this year. Found him to be a great soul and I am out of words to say he’s no more. It’s hard to wipe out memories of people who you admire……….God bless his wife and his two children. Life may be dark at the moment……..but I believe that behind the dark clouds, the sun always shine. God bless the family. As for all of this…..NO RETREAT NO SURRENDER!!

Ashok and I trained in Track and Field at Juhu Sports club in Mumbai. Ashok got me into weight lifting and whilst I was in college in Mumbai we were good friends.
I am deeply saddened by the news of his passing and specially in these circumstances. Ashok was a remarkable person and this is a tragic loss for all those who have had the pleasure of knowing him.

Ashok attended summer camp (Camp Rising Sun) in 1980 with me in the United States. He was the first friend I had at camp that year. Although Ashok and I did not stay in touch, I am left with a sadness in my heart knowing Ashok is no longer with us.

May god bless his family in this time of need.

Ashok and myself played in the same football team for Xaviers. I remember him as a very soft spoken gentleman, a man of few words. In future I will always remember him as a bold and daring personality……….a true son of India…………a martyr beyond compare who was there at the call of duty.

May your Soul Rest in Peace I pray.
